The OpenFOAM Foundation is pleased to announce the release of version 2.3.1 of the OpenFOAM open source CFD toolbox. The release coincides with the 10th Anniversary of the first release of OpenFOAM (version 1.0) by the project founders: Henry Weller, Chris Greenshields and Mattijs Janssens.
Version 2.3.1 consolidates the major version 2.3.0 release through a large number of bug fixes and code improvements, included in over 400 code commits and 800 file changes. OpenFOAM v2.3.1 is distributed under the General Public Licence by the OpenFOAM Foundation as:
Pre-processing A new fixedNormalInletOutletVelocity boundary condition (BC) has been added in 2.3.1; the pressureInletOutletVelocity BC now optionally includes a specified tangential component for velocity. Meshing snappyHexMesh includes some feature enhancements including allowing empty refinement surfaces and improved feature refinement with parallel running; a new searchableSurface has been introduced called searchableDisk, which defines a circular disk by origin, normal and radius; the Bspline functionality has been reintroduced to blockMesh. Thermophysical modelling Support has been added for PengRobinsonGas equation of state. Turbulence modelling The kOmegaSST model has been upgraded and support for multiphase operation has been included in the buoyantKEpsilon and continuousGasKEpsilon models. Multiphase modelling
Improvements have been incorporated to deal with ‘stuck’ particles and a new Lagrangian turbulence library has been created for the new turbulence modelling structure. Post-processing A new vorticity function object has been added in this release. Other The run-time code compilation, e.g. using the the #codeStream directive, and systemCall function object are now activated by default in 2.3.1; they can be deactivated by setting allowSystemOperations switch off (= 0) in the global controlDict file in the etc directory of the OpenFOAM installation. OpenFOAM v2.3.1 was produced by Henry Weller, Mattijs Janssens, Chris Greenshields, Andy Heather, William Bainbridge and Sergio Ferraris. Thanks to the OpenFOAM enthusiasts who have contributed to a better code through the bug reporting system. To download OpenFOAM 2.3.1, click here. |

Hi all,
I have a question for you; before installing OpenFOAM 2.3.1 should I uninstall or remove the 2.3.0 version, or I might follow the instructions for installing? By the way, Im having troubles about the alias in the bashrc file. (in my 2.3.0 version) Igor |

Greetings Igor,
Note: this is not an "official" answer . First of all, you should be more clearer on which installation instructions you've followed to install OpenFOAM 2.3.0. According to your username's posting history, you asked about this here: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ope...u-14-04-a.html - and you followed these instructions for installing: http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/In...u#Ubuntu_14.04 As for the aliases problem you're having, it's explained in detail here: http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/In...nFOAM_versions As for the need to uninstall OpenFOAM 2.3.0: it depends on what you want and/or need. If you prefer to keep things simple, then remove the 2.3.0 installation you have got and then install 2.3.1. Nonetheless, if you want to keep 2 or more versions of OpenFOAM installed, then the instructions mentioned for the aliases will help you do that. As for (sort-of) detailed instructions on uninstalling OpenFOAM, have a look at this FAQ: http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/FA...ve_OpenFOAM.3F Best regards, Bruno

Dear Bruno,
Thanks a lot. Your kindness is superb. As usually. What I did is :remove the files of the 2.3.0 version and do the standard procedure for installing 2.3.1. All went well fortunately. What I am trying to do is: - simulate a buoyancy driven flow (oil) heat by a surface. Simple. Only 1 phase. -that heat transport on its own will make another surface to rise its Temp. And radiate to the atmosphere. I'll try first to do it in 2D first. And want to make parallel processing on a robust system of 128 nodes. (PC cluster). I'm starting the Nagy youtube videos. They are great! !! Have an advice for me , By no means I am an experienced user...I really would need some help. Best Regards, Igor. |
