Hello, I am just picking titles for a final year M.Eng research project (Mechanical Engineering Student) and would like to get people's opinion on the relevancy of the following:

"Computational Modelling of Aerodynamic Noise using OpenFOAM CFD Software"

I've used Star CCM+ to model steam turbines a bit, and am wondering whether learning OpenFOAM is something that would be beneficial in terms of its applicability in research/ general industry these days.

Also is there much scope to utilize things like python etc. in conjunction with OpenFOAM, or how much of a pain is OpenFOAM to use in general?

Thanks

i'd say that if you wanna work with noise and 3D pressure waves with openfoam on real geometries you will certainly get hurt a lot more than while using starccm+ or cfx like solvers and interfaces.

However, if you survive, you'll certainly get much wiser by tracing the OF path

Why pay for Star and then look for free alternatives? That's the opposite of a value-added proposition.
