I am trying to use surface to surface radiation model in fluent. Radiation tab is only active for fluid components and not solid components. why can't radiation model be applied to solid components? Most problems that involve radiation is related to solids and it doesn't make sense if it only works for fluids.

Note: model does have fluid components and I am using interfaces (non-conformal mesh) between solid and fluid components.

Any info on this is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Abe

Fluent 6.3 Radiation Model Theory, Chapter 13.3.7, p. 995. (http://aerojet.engr.ucdavis.edu/flue...f-download.htm)
The surface-to-surface radiation model may be used to account for radiation exchange in a gray-diffuse surface enclosure. The exchange of energy between two surfaces is affected by their size, separation distance, and direction. A geometric function known as a "view factor" accounts for these characteristics.
[from Incropera's Fundamentals of Heat and Mass Transfer, Chapter 13.1 p.812]
F ij is defined as a function of the radiation leaving surface I and being intercepted by surface "j."
