Hello,
I'm simulating a transient case.My question is if i do autosave for .cas and . dat files with retain just 2 files . dat, will i be able to get the temperature and liquid fraction contours in function of flow time in post processing or i would just get them at the two times of the 2 previous retained files.
NB; I'm not simulating with standalone fluent, i'm simulating with FLUENT and post processing will be done separately in CFD POST.
thank you

You can define the surfaces where you will make the contours and then use automatic solution data export to write the data (only the variables that you need) on these surfaces and then import these into CFD post or whatever other post-processor you might be using. This saves a ton of space since you have only the surface you want and not the entire mesh and also because you have only the variable that you want and not all the solution variables. But you should probably be know that because this surface won't be linked to the mesh you might lose some other postprocessing features if you are not careful.

thank you for your help. But during their saving, should i put retain files or i autosave for each a number of timesteps as you said that with retaining a number of files it would just give me 2 results.

The solution data export is a separate stream than writing the case and data files. They're independent of each other. You can write solution data every time step and save 0 case and data files. You can also write 0 solution data and write .dat files every timestep. It's whatever you choose to do.

What should you do? I don't know, I'm on the one doing the post processing and I have no clue what you're trying to do. Do whatever you need to do.
