I've been going through a lot of the softwares to choose from, and there's a handful as you most surely know.
Anyways, it got me wondering, what are you all looking for in a CFD-software when deciding to buy? |

1. Accuracy of results
2. Direct cost of licensing etc. 3. Indirect costs - do you have to hire someone to run it. Does the software gets you the result in one go or you have to spend days trying to get the results you want etc etc. All these are indirect costs. One solver could give you result in one go and while other can require your days or efforts but is opensource and thus you paid no direct licensing cost. In the end if the results shall be accurate (as much as possible). |

For me, the most important thing is understanding what happens inside the software. There are giant differences in turbulence models, solcers, discretisation schemes and so on. It is important to choose this according to the problem and know the limits.
If you have a software which is comfortable but you don't understand fully how it works, you can never trust the results. If a software has less comfort you have to think more closely how far your modeling should go. This is always a good idea.
