Hi guys,
DNS LES RANS Spectral Methods I am a little bit confused about these terms and in particular "Spectral Methods" term. Is DNS/LES considered a "Spectral Method"? Thanks |

DNS, LES and RANS refer to three among other possible ways to manage the the turbulence aspect in a CFD simulation.
Spectral methods are a numerical method to solve PDEs. As it typically is of very high order, it is well suited for LES and DNS. But can be applied to anything (within the limitations of the method). Going into more detail would be pointless, as each of the 4 terms refers to an entire world of knowledge. |

Paolo wrote the answer for you. I suggest to have a look to the textbook of Peric & Ferziger |
