A high order curvilinear mesh generation(converting) tool, which is named 'GRIDer', is strongly recommended:
For high order numerical solver, such as DG, high order curvilinear mesh is necessary. If 1st straight-edge mesh is used for high resolution method, non-physics flow phenomenon would appears. A software named 'GRIDer' is found to convert 1st straight-edge mesh into curved-ede mesh for arbitrary cell type, such as triangle, quad, tet, prism, pyramid. INPUT: CGNS type of 1st straight-edge mesh && IGES CAD geometry model. OUTPUT: GMSH format of curved mesh. you can get it from https://github.com/grider2016/grider |

Looks like you are the author of this software. Do you have a description of the method used to generate the high order mesh from the linear mesh ?

That's great, but what do you do about the very thin elements used to resolve the boundary layer around highly curved surfaces?
