Hello friends

I want to buy a system to perform simulations on 3D Multiphase flows, and i want to know the system requirements so that, i am able to perform all the simulations without any difficulty and less time.

Thanks

Rather a question for the hardware subsection of the forum.
However, you will have to provide more details in order to get a useful answer.

Less time than what? Depends on the size of your simulations and which hardware setup you are comparing the run time to. A budget for your new computer would also help.

For 3D multiphase simulations i usually recommend buying a Supercomputer.

That's certainly one possible solution if you want to play it safe

Hello,
In my case, I am doing some RANS simulations in 2D and 3D, more or less 2 million cells.
I use an Intel Xeon E3 V3 server with 32 GB RAM.
This works fine for me.
Regards,

Dear Alex, my budget is around 4000$. I was planning to buy Precision T7910.

Hello,

This really depends on what multiphase model you want to solve. Total number of dof will give you an idea of the RAM you need. Total dof depends on the mesh size but also on the total number of equations (number of phases and number of equations per phase), discretization type (first order FV is not the same as high order DG, explicit euler time stepping is not the same as high order RGK or implicit), etc. My working computer is based on a T7910, 16 3-years old cores and 64gb RAM memory. In terms of RAM memory I can solve more than 10 million elements for a 7 phase 5-equation/phase model with explicit time stepping. In terms of CPU time, though it is a whole different story... and honestly I am not that patient and run these simulations on a cluster.

To make it short, it is easy and rather cheap to design a desktop computer that will run your case. Evaluating computing time is not easy at all without more details.
