Hi guys,
I am curious if there are any preprocessors today which are very much like gambit. The major reason having the functionality to move the mesh around and the overall flexibility and control we have. Especially, easily manually sweeping 2-D meshes into 3-D. I have only tried workbench (and for a considerable time) and found it to be lacking in several arenas.

I am curious if there are any meshers which offer the functionality of gambit. (pointwise, ICEM- i know the old ICEM was time consuming too not sure about newer versions, or ANSA?)

Thanks.

If we are talking about hexahedral grids:

ICEM has my #1 vote for most similar to Gambit.

Try GridPro. It is more automated (because that is their selling point) and does not give you full manual control. GridPro doesn't do tets. They have added tools for mesh extrusion in v6 because it was a highly requested feature.

Pointwise would have been my third choice, but I have not used it in almost a decade to know where it is at now.

I tought it was this one:

http://www.csimsoft.com/trelis-cfd

They (GAMBIT and Trelis) are both branched from the same root, CUBIT (according to http://www.csimsoft.com/about.jsp).

Okay.

Even the latest version of workbench is buggy and generally useless for complex CFD calcs. Creating mesh is another solution process rather than "pre-processing".

I will check out both of your suggestions.
