Hi,

I focused my spare time over the last 6 weeks to evaluate how to enable hand gesture with CFD visualisation. I ended up coupling a Kinect sensor to the ParaViewWeb online viewer. The results is ParaViewWebKinect a strange and wonderful mash-up... No plan to release anything at the moment as it is really rough and not really that practical in the grand scheme of scheme. I will try to put a short slideshare on how it was put together.

I wanted to make it for #simulationFriday and had to give up on on screen-capture due to limited computational resources - my old, but trusty, ThinkPad X200 is reaching its limits.

Have a good weekend.

Looks nice but personally I wouldn't like to spend my entire day at work in that position… I do prefer a "classic" mouse.

Me too.

I wanted to investigate this approach for a number of reasons, one of them was to assess technological feasibility. I was actually surprised at how easy it was to implement and by how the kinect sensor responded - there was none of the jerkiness that I was kind of expecting. I have the impression that the kinect sdk implements an excellent smoothing algorithm.

This being considered, the negative aspect is primarily that it is an interaction device and not an input device. It has none of the accuracy that would be required for accurate operations, and could not be used for setting up a section plane for example.
