Hi everyone,
I'm new in the forum and I'm searching informations about how use GPU for my CFD calculation in Fluent. I'm currently simulating a cooling system for a battery module using the MSMD Dual-Potential Module installed in Fluent, but the computing time seems to be very onerous. Once I set my GPU (Nvidia GTX 1060 4GB on a Dell XPS 15) through the command gpgpu, I don't understand why the program closes immediately as the simulation starts. Reading some info online, one reason could be releated to the inability of the GPU to solve the energy equations. Another reason could be the high RAM space occupied by my project but, for what I can see from the Task manager, it should remain within the 3.5 GB. Can anybody help me please? Sorry for my bad English and thanks in advance. |

What's the error message you get when the program closes?
Are you sure that the solver you are using supports GPU acceleration? Do you run your simulations in single precision? A word of warning: GPU acceleration with commercial CFD solvers like Fluent is not a magic bullet, where enabling it gives you a 4x performance boost, just because GPUs have higher raw performance than CPUs. There are caveats. LOTS of caveats... My usual recommendation would be: don't waste time researching how you can leverage GPU performance. 9 times out of 10, this time is better spent looking for ways to get more CPU performance. |
