How the change of HD to SSD and adding more Ram Memory would affect the CFD, especially to the time that the solver takes?
I have a notebook with 4GB of RAM memory and an Intel Core i3 2nd generation as the CPU. Is it worth to make the changes I mencioned above? |

If yu have enough RAM to fit the entire model into memory, then more will not help. Thjat is if both memory channels are filled with DRAM. if only 1 is filled, adding a second one will greatly increase memory bandwidth and solution time.
The SSD won't do anything for the solver, but could help with post processing of transient files etc. You could always add a second SSD and keep your main HD as well if your laptop supports 2 drives. Then just use the SSD as the working directory (save your files there while working on them) Is your laptop 64bit or 32bit? Because 32 bit systems only support 4GB of RAM. |
