I want to plot Iso-surface of Q-criterion from LES simulation like those in the picture.
Can anyone give me a hint about how to do it in Fluent? Thanks alot! |

U need have the simulation run with result first.
Then create at Surface > ISO-surface. u will need to specify what properties u want to use for this surface. Basically , ISO surface is just link up all the point with same value. For example, u want see all place with velocity = 10m/s, then u specify this value in ISO surface. fluent will link up all place with velocity =10m/s and make it a surface. Then u have to open up the light at view to get the 3D render view. after that u just view>grid of the ISO-surface u created. I only done this once for fun. This is just some pieces in my memory. Hope it helps.

Thanks a lot! I try and it works. There is one more question (I know you have only memory pieces. It is understandable if you don't remember it.) say I want to display several iso-surfaces with different values, how can I make them have different colors? |

I just know u can create more then one ISO surface.
Maybe u can create with different value of surface and paint it with different color. U should be able to show more then one surface when u show grid. But i not sure how to paint surface with different color. Maybe u can tell me when u did it.

YH,
yes, I can create iso-surfaces with different values and display them in one picture, but just can not use different colors for them. I will post here when I know the answer. Thanks! |

Hello there.
I have exactly the same problem. I want to import an iso-surface I have created in Tecplot, but I dont understand the format of the data file I have exported from CFD-Post. I can see it gives me the x-y-z coordinates, later t gives me the faces and then it gives me numbers I dont know what they refer to. Would u have an answer on that? Please help. Thank you in advance |

You mean, you want to see FLUENT results in Tecplot? You can't export it from CFD Post.
You will need to export your solution as CGNS file through FLUENT itself. Somewhere in Files >> Export >> Solution etc. Here you can select the variables you want to export, and save the cgns file. This can be opened in any visualization software. But with Tecplot, you don't even have to do that. You can directly read the FLUENT solution files into it. OJ |

Thank you so much for your answer. I have already exported the solution file that I need. It gives me X-Y-Z coordinates with the corresponding nodes. I also need the connectivities, which I choose, but it gives me a connectivity number (one number), whichI dont Know what this number refer to. Later in the txt file I get, it gives me the faces. At some point, it gives 5 nodes for each face, and I dont know how to change it, to put it in tecplot, and in which catecory it belongs. I can see what you say in CFD-Post environment, but when I scale it in the Z axis, my design gets ruined. I also need some other results, and need to put it in tecplot. Is there a way to solve my problem? Thank you in advance |
