DIESEL COMBUSTION

HI evry body I want to simulate diesel combustion with FLUENT in order to have her impact for the piston ( pressur température ) simulation is stationary I am lost, because it is my first simulation in combustion please can any one help me or send me any tutorials because in the internet they are all blocked sincerly

Hi,
I did some work on diesel combustion but it was for gas turbine application. But there may be some similarities...first, because diesel is a liquid and a multi-component fuel, you will have to try to settle on which of the components that make up diesel you would simulate. For me, i simulated gas-oil (C16H29) since it made up the largest percentage contribution by mass to diesel. This component is also provided in the fluent data base and so it is easy to handle in this respect. Next, you will use the Discrete phase model in fluent for the discrete phase (liquid) simulation. Fluent uses the lagrangian -eulerian formulation for two phase flow. There are others like the locally homogeneous flow model which assumes tha the two component are in the same phase but this is not very practical. One good paper too to help will be the paper by GM Faeth.....the actual title of the paper is: Faeth, G.M., Evaporation and combustion of sprays, Progress in energy and combustion science, 1983 vol. 9, PP. 1-76. The process can be divided into the ff: Atomization of liquid fuel into droplets (atomization model needed) Evaporation of liquid fuel droplets to gaseous fuel Mixing Combustion. Depending on whether your combustion is lean and pre-mixed, you have some options to use in fluent. A report by Chevron (www.chevron.com) on diesel fuel might also help. Crucial is the thermo-physical properties of your liquid fuel as wrongly specifying them can affect the combustion process. I hope this helps in a way. James |

HI james Thank you for your help Can you send me By mail the paper that you said Can you explain me how to use limite condition for injection diesel and air My piston it's not moving but in the realite the combustion make move the piston . how to simulate that in order to have a good result. thank you Sincerly ;

For Fluent Registered users, there are tutorials. One for a generic cylinder (I have read it) and one with a real diesel cylinder (I have heard about it).
NB To make your piston move with combustion, you have to know the whole inertial response of the engine and accessories. It is tuff, if not impossible. It is rather usually considered prescribed piston movement in relation with stroke, rode, rpm... |

For my simulation can i use the "Non-Premixed Combustion Model" thank you |

Dear friends,
I am simulating in-cylinder diesel combustion in Fluent. I am using eddy dissipation model in species transport. However, the combustion fails to initialize after the injection of diesel (using DPM injector). The temperature and pressure at the end of the compression stroke are 1050 K and 50 bar. Please share your thoughts on what could be the problem. Thanks. Amita |
