You can use Fluent's Solidification model for this. I am not sure what u mean by "ice contains liquid + solid". But if its simply water getting solidified to ice then it's easy to model in Fluent. For further details read Fluent's manual. If there is any doubt write back.

i have some problems with the solidification model. actually i am confused with the procedure to be carried out for solving this model. i think, with solidification model any other model(like VOF) is needed? continuous casting tutorial is not sufficient to solve. i am currently trying to solve a problem on "solidification in a rectangular enclosure" in FLUENT 6.2.26 i will be very thankful if u could help. kale |

Hi all,
I have similar problem, I'm not sure that solidification model can help since the phenomene of water is not similar to casting because of the supercooledwater dropletes wich change phase into ice while touching the solid surface. I can resume my experience with icing that you need to define water dropletes in air as multiphase multiflow domain using Eulrien model / lagrangian in addition to turbulance model like SST or k-e. The main difficulty is how to introduce water to CFX or Fluent as suppercooled droplets or as ice to calculate the quantity of ice to be accreated, and how to deal with changing geomety (mesh moving) every time a new layer of ice is formed? We wish that someone can help us in that particular obstacle... Good Luck |

Hi Guys,
Could you tell us if you resolved your problems? I got a similar problem. I'm simulating a deicing system installed as a coating installed on the blades of wind turbines. Do we have to have a moving mesh for that? Thanks a lot, Lotfi |

Another approach without using fluent solidification/melting model is to simulate single phase flow, and to define custom specific heat so to have an apparent Cp; also it's possibile to define custom viscosity (very high value for solid phase and that of water for the liquid phase f(T)) and conductivity.
Water has a fixed temperature for solid-liquid phase change, but you can define a very small deltaT in udfs where properties change so to have continuous functions. I used this approach in wax solidification and it worked well. Daniele |

Is it possible to do solidification of water in fluent 6.3 using the solidification and modelling method.? I have to solidify a 2-D water droplet to ice
any related tutorial send to mdm14d002@iiitdm.ac.in thanks in advance |
