I am currently a Fluent user. It is in Windows operating system. I have just heard that Fluent in Linux system is much more faster than that in Windows. I have no idea about that because we have not Linux version of Fluent.

DO YOU HAVE ANY COMMENTS ON THIS???

I really doubt this. At the end of the day, if you are going to be running the same software on the same hardware, then you can not really expect a significant difference just from the operating system.

I imagine that depending on the particular case you are running, you might see a few percent difference.

I do run Fluent on Linux, but I would put my reasons down to reliability&stability, remote access, ethics, etc. rather than speed.

You may find that given your experience with Windows, it is the best OS for you. (this is hard for me to say - I hate windows with a passion)

I agree with Rob Hart.

Linux has many advantages on Windows, like stability and security.

On linux you can find a great C/C++ compiler for your UDF without additional costs.

Last, but not least, linux is free and gives you the freedom to fully configure it. It's no difficult to set up a cluster using linux, and you can find all you need on the Internet.

But I doubt the difference to be in peformance.

My personal point of view is that if you have always used Windows, switching to linux is not easy. You have a lot of things to learn, and many things are different, but I think it's worth of it.

P.S. I hate windows too ;-)

i worked on windows/linux/Unix machine with fluent, though there is not much difference i have noticed on speed for a run on same machine, but it is quite startling to see that some cases i found running fater on Unix than on windows (i am talking about same cases)and in some other cases windows is faster. so in all mixed views,

linux definitely has upper hand when it comes to stability, my linux never crashed in last two years but on the same machine i always have doubt whether it will complete it or not, (not to mention i have to reinstall windows in almost every two months ..its a bullshit)

I have ever used Fluent on Windows. In this moment i need to work with the solver on a network of machines. I think that the best performance of Linux can be appreciated in this event. What about you?

I wanna ask if you face with any differences in the results you obtained from Fluent simulations if you run them on Windows and Linux systems.

I'm running the exact same case once in Windows and then in Linux and obtaining completely different results, do you have any idea why this can be ?

I have a (server) system with both linux and a windows on it. I want to know has anybody experience to run fluent on windows in such a system? It can make errors?
