Hy everyone who is interested in fluid flow !

i want to validate and compare my cfd-calculation working with fluent to schlieren images. the schlieren images show the density gradient in mean stream direction.

is there an easy way of making fluent display the calculation as a schlieren image (display the gradient of density) ? is udf the way to get my problem solved ?

thanks for any help

This should work:

1) Plot a contour of whatever you want, such as density. 2) Plot a contour of the adaption function.

The adaption function is the gradient of the last used variable (thus you must display it immediately after you work with the desired variable). I think it works on all variables that Fluent can display.

Hello! I find there is no adaption function in the "Contours" options now in the new version such as Ansys Fluent 2021. So does anyone know how to show the density schlieren now? Thanks in advance!

The ribbon interface changed a bit in the newer versions. In the file menu at the very top it is the same. It exists, just find the adapt button.

Thanks a lot! I am so happy to from your replyment! I can find the "adapt" button in the top menu, but I cannot find the "adaption function" items in this menu. I don't know how to use the top menu to display the same contour. The adapt button can mark the cells or refine the cells, but I cannot understand how to use it to show the gradient of density? May I get more details? Thank you in advance!
