Hi! I've been trying to simulate transonic flow (0.8 Mach) over a naca0012 but havent been getting any reliable results.
would the mesh that I've attached be able to simulate transonic flow well please? I found a picture of it, but there seems to be no tutorials on how to generate it sadly Can someone give me some tips on this too please, very new user of Ansys Fluent BC4BDA4E-6473-408D-8159-408F18856EB6.jpg Thanks in advance |

Probably, but you should show the mesh around the airfoil, we do not care about the far field

Hi LoGal, sorry that’s the only image I have of the mesh.
I managed to generate the parabola geometry, but am really struggling with the actual meshing? Can you suggest where to start with meshing like that please? Should I start with splitting up the geometry using lines maybe first? Thanks |

I have no clue how the mesh looks like near the airfoil. Probably it is fine. But maybe not. I don't see it.

Hi xiaolong.li and LoGal, thank you Xiaolong for the idea on using papers, I actually managed to find this close up.
I still am unsure about how actually generate a mesh like this (both far field and close to the aerofoil), I’m not managing to get it to look the same. This is what I think they use close to the aerofoil: Inflation But then for the far field part, how do I generate a mesh like that please? Could you maybe suggest tutorial that covers this please as they seem to be only showing the setup on YouTube not the geometry or mesh bit |

ah I see. Look for ICEM airfoil tutorials. C grid or O grid.

Hi again, do you think it could be made in Andy’s Fluent design modeller please? I haven’t used ICEM before

design modeller modifies the geometry, but is not capable of meshing. Something similar can be produced with the ansys mesher in the workbench.
But tbh it really takes 1-2 days to learn how to create meshes for simple geometrical shapes such as an airfoil, no matter the software. In my opinion you are wasting your time thinking too much while you should get into action |
