Hi all,

I'm doing a FSI simulation for a melting and soldification process. After the mold solidifies I need to let it cool until it reach room temperature. Therefore, can I deactivate the cast zone in the middle of simulation and continue it wihtout loosing data?
Also is there a way to setup convergence criteria so that simulation stops when the mold reaches the solidus temperature?

Thank you.

The answer to your questions, yes and yes ...

You can change the boundary condition type in the middle of simulation use Execute Commands but this could be done at certain time .. not event. If you provide more details, there might be another way that you can use ..

You can set your convergence criteria .. go to Monitor -- > Residuals -- > convergence criteria and make your own criteria. You might need to use a simple UDF to check your criteria and pass a value of the solver to stop.

Hi Yasser,

Thank you for your reply.

I'm doing a solidification/melting simulation to obtain the temperature/time output to simulate residual stresses in casted object.

In fluent simulation first I want to simulate from pouring temperature until the shakedown temperature with the mold intact and then I want to remove the mold and let it cool till it reach room temerpature.

It seems if I can have a convergence criteria I can fully automate the process right? With some custom TUI commands I mean.

Cheers,
Rashiga
