Hello everyone,
I am trying to simulate the free surface vortex. I want to do the same simulation as the video below, but in 2-D simulation using FLUENT. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwtGJeebwg8 My target is 3-D simulation to capture free surface vortex in CFD, in order to save the time 2D simulation has implemented with two phase(air and water). but it diverged... I am not quite sure which model should I choose, also the boundary condition... Should I use the "open channel" model? or just "free surface" will be fine? Could anyone give me some advice about this simulation? Here's my roughly setting in FLUENT. the B.C. setting https://drive.google.com/file/d/1F2r...ew?usp=sharing Transient time, set gravity, with VOF model air&water (default properties) Realizable k-e Standard Wall Fn operating condition:101325[pa], reference pressure location:Y=2.15[m], operating density:1.225 (I want to set water level at Y=2.15[m], also use "patch" to create water and air region) and the results... I can't understand why there is a huge wave at inlet... normally the water level should decrease smoothly not like this... https://drive.google.com/file/d/11Fn...ew?usp=sharing Thank you very much! I have been confused it for long time...... Last edited by Yining CHEN; June 16, 2019 at 03:06. |

Hello sir Yining CHEN
I am also trying to simulate the surface and subsurface vortex like in video below as in your message. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwtGJeebwg8 I am use VOF and use open channel. is that right? i do not get movie that can simulate the vortex like the video above or experimental result. can you help me if you found the exact boundary condition that can represent the case of our study? also my study suppose that the velocity in the bell mouth of intake is constant and the water level in the tank must still constant. Thanks |
