hi
i am working on lung flow and particle deposition on fluent. i have successfully run the steady flow.in this case particles are released from inlet;then some of them are escape from outlets and some are trapped on the lung wall. i have a question: - how can i show where the particles are trapped on wall of lung??? |

Hello,
after initializing your case and before starting calculation go to Reports---sample and choose the surfaces u want to see the trapping position on them and choose your injection and then click start, close the tab and start your calculation, after your calculation is done go to the previous tab and click stop, you will find a file (name.dpm) where you have saved your case that all the particles positions that have been trapped are included in it. however i don't know if it works for steady calculations or not, but it is pretty usefull in transient calculations. |

thank you D.Malekian
but i like to see two things: 1- how many of particles are trapped in one specific surface. 2- i'd like to see graphically where the trapped partice are absorbed in walls. |

Dear Malekian,
Did you find any solution to your problem, I have the same question too. I'm modelling particle deposition in a microchannel, as the results I have some particle trapped on the walls, but I can't find their position as x,y,z or visualize those in CFD-post. Please email me if you find any solution (daali935@gmail.com). Regards |

If you are using trap condition for particle deposition, then those particles cannot be tracked. Trap condition stops the tracking and particle mass is added to the continuous phase. They are not deposited nor can they be tracked using standard approach. If the particles are made of liquid, then you can use wall-jet or wall-film for deposition.

I am curious to know that we have by default three conditions in DPM for walls (ie reflect, escape & trap). To know deposition on a surface which one should be selected? Because in the paper doi:10.3390/app7040431 used Fluent was assumed the wall boundary is traped while they showed the deposition fraction diagram. "Note that the trap boundary condition with a restitution coefficient of 0 is considered as the particle boundary condition on the surfaces of the duct and obstacles for evaluating particle deposition because for the reflect boundary, the particle deposition is zero as the restitution coefficient is equal to 1." However, as you said, I run by trap condition and in the report, there was nothing to show. I have 2 other questions. 1- Via the method proposed above by Davoud Malekian, I have a report from particles and parcels on a surface. Does it mean if I divide the number of parcels in the report file by the total number of parcels in domain I have the deposition fraction? 2- Is it required to active Erosion/Accretion in DPM? Trapped particulars don`t see if equal to 0. So You can't see trapped. You can check tracked particulars as to the sum of the other.
