Hello people!
I am new in UFD. I need to include the electric fields applied on the ions and search they trajectories in combined influence - flow and electric field. The electric fields would be precalculated, using another software. I would like to know about whole procedure of working with UDF.
Where I need to write the code? How to compile and execute it? Where I should keep the files with precalculated electric fields? In what format they should be written? How I can call them?
I would be very appreciate if you refer me where I may read that in the simplest form (chapters in ANSYS FLUEN manuals, etc.)

Hi Serguei,

I'm also new to the UDF domain. I'm currently working on a problem which looks similar to yours (I'm working with an magnetic field instead of a electric field).

I suppose the easiest way would be to apply an external force on your particle an see how they behave with it. There is a UDF-example in the UDF-Manual

A UDF is written in C.

Regarding the compiling and the other things you ask I'm clueless.

Hope it will help, and sorry for my bad english.

There's a whole manual on UDFs, called either UDF manual or Customization Manual I believe (name depends on the Fluent version you use). If you can't find it, just press on Help anywhere in Fluent, go to Search and search for something like define_profile. You'll be automatically directed to an entry in the UDF manual. It's a pretty thorough manual, so it should answer most of your above questions, like syntax, compiling, loading, hooking, executing, etc.
