Hi,

I'm willing to try v11 because of the conforming mesh blocks option, but don't know how to implement it in a model. Can anybody explain to me how does it work?

this year, i make a study between non-conform mesh and conform mesh in casting simulation.

1. casting simulation modelling use non-conform mesh in our work guideline. the advantage is set different size/number cell in the place where it need. such as that, when the thickness of some place is small, we can make fine mesh, other place are not fine mesh. the disadvantage is that, the fine mesh some time can not be calculated convergenced and the run time is long. besides, the mesh plane/ cell number setting work is time cost, because it need much try time to get a better FAVOR result.

2. when i using conform mesh, i setting the open for fuild cast cavity, set cell size in the whole mesh block, such as 0.1. the advantage is mesh time saving great, and the balanced flow behavior. conform method according the profile of cavity to mesh FVM element uniform. the element which not in the cavity is not involved in calculation. the disadvantage is that if the thinnest zone is too small, the mesh cell may larger than 2,500,000., and also cost time.

i have question here. Do conform meshing follows the gmo motion with time or stays in the coordinate assigned? tq

Hi, Could you find how to use it? I would like to use conformed mesh at some part of my mesh.

Thank you in advance!

Hi M. Nazrin, Thank you for your reply. I would like to use fine mesh close to the solid like in the picture. Can I do this without creating block, like in the picture?

Thank you in advance! 44C49696-5128-4C18-A20C-754579542F05.jpeg

Hi elyasmin,

Sure u can. lets name say u have an object 'X'. U must have 2 object X.

At geometry panel:

First object X will be: type: solid
Second object X will be, type: meshing

At meshing panel

add another mesh for conforming mesh (lets name it as "Mesh X"). Then select conform to: meshing component.

There u go. depend on the flow3d version u are using, u can view conforming mesh during favor only at flow3d v12. While flow3d v11, u only can view the conforming mesh after preprocessing and for 2d view.

*Sorry for bad english

Thank you so much for your nice explanation M. Nazrin! I got fine mesh outside the solid as in the picture that I have attached. However, I want fine mesh only around the surface of the solid as in the picture that I have attached previous message.

Thank you in advance!

Hi elyasmin, glad that i can help.

In that case,
At mesh panel > 'conforming mesh x' ,type : open volume

Incase u still havent got what u want, feel free to email me at:

Hi Nazrin,

Can we mesh only the solid component to reduce computation time?

Hi, good day!

I havent use Flow3D for sometimes. If i am not mistaken, u can change type: open volume -> type: blocked volume. I dont have access to flow3D for the moment, so i suggest u to play around with the settings that related to meshing. Dont be scared, ur pc wont broke down. Hahahaha .

The computer that I'm using belongs to the University hhhh.

When I specify Open volume or Blocked volume or even Conform to a mesh component I can't see any difference. The mesh is still a rectangular box with the specified cell size without any change, but what I want is something like the attached picture.

I would like to thank you for your replay that I appreciated a lot.
