Hi Folks,
I am simulating dual-fuel combustion using sector mesh with single nozzle. I am injecting fuel quantity of 40 mg/cyc from one 1 nozzle. What should be the number of parcels for a chosen mass of fuel? It would be also nice if anyone can explain the reason behind on what basis the number parcels are chosen? Thanks and Best Regards Arun Kumar |

Hi Arun,
Based on our prior studies in this area, we suggest starting with a mass of 5e-10 kg/parcel. These parcels statistically represent the liquid spray field. Ideally we seek a solution that is statistically independent of the number of parcels injected but it might not always be possible to perform such a study. Hence we suggest a value based on our experience in the field that you can start with and later on either increase or decrease the parcel count according to your specific needs. It is important to inject enough parcels so that too much liquid mass does not accumulation in a gas phase cell. This would over predict the liquid penetration. This is also why we recommend to ideally increase the parcel count by a factor of 8 when the mesh size is reduced by a factor of 2.
