Default mesh from icem cfd to cfx, how?

I generated a mesh on ICEM CFD (version within ANSYS CFX-v11.0), then I save as a mesh file (model called *.uns) (File --> mesh --> save mesh as) In CFX-Pre (ANSYS CFX-v11.0 version), I start a new simulation, then I

choose "Import mesh", In "mesh format", I choose "ICEM CFD", then I browse to file

"model.uns", then click, but error appears like:

ERROR There was a problem importing the mesh from the requested file. The importing process reported the following problem: Unable to import mesh: File does not appear formatted as a CFX5 import file.

I tried many times, with many different models, but I had the same error, as you can see. Please, show me why ? Any help, would be great ! Thanks !

You have to select ANSYS CFX instead of Fluent_V6. *.uns is ICEM CFD format and you can't import it into CFX-pre. If you can't make *.gtm file, you can select any other supported by CFX-Pre.

Hope it helps!

Hai Rogerio,

After generating the mesh(*.uns) in ICEM, goto the Output tab. Click on 'Select Solver' and choose it. Then click on 'Write Input' and choose binary instead on ASCII. Then write your Input file(*.cfx5) and import this to CFX.

Regards,

Subha.

Hi Subha,

i did what u said, but i got this error message:

"Error: Running ICEMCFD - CFX5 Interface Vers. 10.0.1

Error: no volume elements found.child process exited abnormally".

I wonder, what did I do of wrong? I didnīt use block to make the mesh, called, test.uns. I followed exactly that you recommend to do.

Are you sure you generate a volume mesh? The error message says clearly that you haven't create volume elemets. Probably you have surface elements only. In this case you need to select the "Volume Meshing" tab in order to create it.

Hai Rogerio,

1. Is your mesh tetra or hexa?

2. If hexa, did you check your blocks and assosivity?

3. Tell us how did you create you mesh (*.uns)

Regards,

Subha.

Itīs hexa. I didnīt use blocks!

"2. If hexa, did you check your blocks and assosivity? ": No, because i didnīt create blocks!

"3. Tell us how did you create you mesh (*.uns)": i choose hexa or hexa-dominante and I sent to compute the mesh! I choose the volume mesh tab, but when i send the file do Solver (ANSYS CFX), i found this error message, as i mentioned before!

I created the mesh, but i didnīt use blocks. I exported to mesh.cfx5 for running on ANSYS CFX-v11.0 (CFX-Pre). Whatīs the meaning of these blocks?

Hai Rogerio,

I think you should have a look on the tutorial 'Tibia' to generate pure Hexa Dominant mesh in ICEM. If you are not able to generate the output file still after following the procedure, then get back to us.

Regards,

Subha.

Hi Lois,

I am extremely sorry for not replying. I actually used UNIX during my MASTERs 2011. After that I am using windows platform. So I don't remember how I solved this problem. Try with some other threads
