how to combine multiple block files in ICEM?

Hi,
How can I combine two geometries and the corresponding blockings that are separately created? I would like to read in the geometry files and their corresponding block files into one project. Has anyone done this? kpv |

Hi,
In ICEM, if you have an opened project and try to load another one, the software will ask you, if you want to close the current project before. In your case, you should answer "no" and you will have both projects available together. Then, if you want a continuous and overall matching mesh, it is your task to merge the geometry and the blocks' vertices. If your meshes match exactly at their interfaces and you don't want to remesh, it is also possible to merge the elements' nodes. Magnoli. |

Hi Magnoli,
Thanks. I tried this, but ICEM closes the existing project before it loads another one. Also I tried loading the geometry (tin) files and blocking files from the two projects. This way there is an option to replace/merge. Although it works for the geometry, the blocking seems to get over written. kpv |

By default, when you create blocking in one project, all the blocking will be put under "root" in "Blocking\Topology" display tree. When you bring in another blocking, you will be asked to replace or merge it with existing blocking. If you choose merge, the second blocking will be named as "top0" under "Blocking\Topology". As this point, both blockings are co-existed, but they are not actually merged. To merge them, right click either of them (for example, "root") and select "merge". You will be asked to select topology to which "root" will be merged. Let's say you select "top0". Now Hexa will create another topology named as "top1". This is the one combining both "root" and "top0". Notice that "root" and "top0" are still there. Hexa does not eliminate them. Now you project actually has three blockings.
