Hi,
When I try to open my geometry in the mesher on CFX (using the workbench), it does not seem to load. The mesher seems to remain stuck on "attaching geometry" (See Image 02 in the attachments)`and the workbench on "starting mesher" (See Image 01 in the attachments). At first I thought I need to just be patient and let it load but it didn't open even being left like that over night. I have this issue on and off on my machine and there are times when simply opening the file again has worked. However, this time re-starting the computer and reloading the geometry does not seem to be working either. I looked up on google but most articles on meshing related issues were for some sort of actual error. In my case, I don't get any error message. It just stays like that forever. I am a relatively new ANSYS/CFX user and am currently migrating from StarCCM+ so my experience with this software is limited. Any advise on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

At the bottom, there is a tab messages. Does this give any hint?

Thanks for your response. That's a great catch, but unfortunately the screen remains frozen so I can't click/access on that message at the bottom. I have to use "ctrl+alt+delete" and then end the task and quit CFX after this stage.

If I'm correct, the size of the windows in the mesher is remembered by Workbench. So if you open a case that works and resize the message-window, then probably you'll be able to read its content with this not-working geometry.

So I tried what you recommended. Once I used "ctr+alt+delete" to force shut down the mesher, I went back to the workbench and found two messages (See attachment labelled "Message").
After that I did not shut the workbench and instead went back to mesher by clicking "edit" and this time it worked. It also displayed another message (See attachment labelled "Message2"). Not sure why this keeps happening or if there is a way around it. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help! |

Ansys Meshing is trying to work with a DesignModeler (*.agdb) file. Did you make the geometry in DM or did you import a CAD file into DM and prepare it for your CFX simulation? Have you tried using a CFX Analysis System and use SpaceClaim instead of DM? SpaceClaim will make a *.scdoc file.

Hi Stuart,
I created the geometry in Solidworks and then imported it into Design Modeler as a .iges file. I prepped the file further in Design Modeler by naming faces and bodies, etc before attempting to open it in the mesher. I have never tried CFX Analysis system. Could you please advise me on its functionality and how that would be helpful in the current situation? Further, I have never tried using SpaceClaim either. Do you recommend I use that insteaad? And what would be the advantage? Thank you for your time and help on this! |

You have used a CFX Analysis System as it is in you first image, it is a feature within Workbench to make things a bit neater - nothing special about it.
Suggest you drag a new CFX Analysis System across to the Workbench Project Schematic. Right-click on Geometry (cell A2 in the CFX Analysis System) and you care given the choice of opening DesignModeler or SpaceClaim. You can also RMB on cell A2 and import your CAD file and then choose either DM or SC. DesignModeler is now a legacy product. SpaceClaim is the recommended Ansys geometry application, it is powerful and easy to use (once you practice). SC is not a history-based CAD application like DM, more similar to SolidWorks. As a new User you should watch some of the many YouTube tutorials before trying to do simulations - but people like to jump straight in and then encounter problems: https://www.youtube.com/@AnsysHowTo/videos https://www.youtube.com/@AnsysLearning/videos Last edited by siw; March 8, 2023 at 06:56. |

Thank you, Stuart! I will keep that in mind and go over these tutorial videos as well.
