Hello,

I am currently simulating single annular flow of a Non-Newtonian fluid using ANSYS Workbench - CFX 19.2. I found a tutorial in YouTube for annular flow in concentric circles simulated in ANSYS Fluent.. It says that a surface needs to be created between the two sketches as in fluent the fluid is meshed then modeled. Is this the same in CFX as well? If so do I need to create the surface between the circles then extrude the sketches to specify the depth? If I do that I get 2 Parts, 2 bodies in which one is the solid body and the other is the surface created. Is this correct? Also, do I need to create a surface at both the inlet and the outlet of the pipe or creating a surface at one side of the pipe is enough ??

Thank you!

Your question appears to be asking how you set up a basic CFX simulation. Have you done the CFX tutorials? They show you the basics of who to run the software. There are also tutorials on the pre-processor and meshing packages as well, you should look at these as well.

Hello Ghorrocks,

Thanks a lot for your reply. The tutorial questions that I have attempted come with an external geometry and mesh which are imported in CFX .. seems like I have been looking at the wrong CFX tutorials. I have been learning the geometry and mesh generation from youtube videos.
Will search for the tutorials that shows how to create the geometry and the meshes.
Thanks again for you reply.

On the ANSYS customer website there are tutorials for lots of ANSYS products, including the geometry and meshing applications. If you are a student then there is a selection of them on the Academic portal. So yes, you should be looking a the Geometry and Meshing tutorials as well as the CFX simulation tutorials.

Hi again ghorrocks,

Yes I am a student.
I managed to create the geometry and the mesh. However, my solution does not converge. I tried to change the advection scheme and the number of iterations but the solution didn't converge... I also changed the mesh size. couldn't figure out what my mistake could be. I didn't know how to attach pictures here.

You need to do the CFX simulation tutorials to understand how to run the solver as well. Also read the documentation on "obtaining convergence". This FAQ might help as well: https://www.cfd-online.com/Wiki/Ansy...gence_criteria
