Does any one know how to calculate bubble equivalent diameter in CFD software?

From what type of simulation? Lagrangian particle tracking or eularian multiphase?

Exactly what bubble equivalent diameter are you referring to? The equivalent bubble representing all the gas in the fluid, or a bubble diameter which is reperesentative of the typical diameter present (such as the Sauter Mean Diameter or SMD)?

In experimental study, the projected area of each bubbles (AB) determined using the software, and then converted to an equivalent diameter (Deq), i. e. the diameter of a circle having the same area as the projected area of the bubble.
The CFD command language (CCL) or physics set up for simulations consists of two inlets (air and water), one outlet (opening) and wall boundaries. Mass flow rate periodic boundary condition is implemented in inlet and wall is defined as default as no-slip boundary condition. The outlet flow regime is subsonic with a relative pressure of 0 pa. Bubbles are set as polydispersed phase and modelled into five homogeneous groups, using equivalent diameter. |

Sounds like you need to write a CEL expression to calculate this. You should have the bubble size and volume fraction for each of the bubble size groups, so you should be able to calculate it from there.

When you say bubble size, do you mean bubble size diameter? If I knew bubble size diameter, my problem was solved, and also to calculate bubble volume fraction I still need to know the equivalent diameter or may be there are other methods that I'm not aware of.

I thing I got it. I actually calculated bubble equivalent diameter by calculating the midpoint of the corresponding range. Thanks

HI,
I am using MUSIG model for calculating bubble size distribution and I am unable to get bubble size and number of bubbles wrt perticular size. how to plot bubble size distribtion in CFX ? Regards! |
