Dear all,
I am using CFX for turbine simulation.
After some iteration (parallel) simulation shows error 255
my questions are
1)what is meant by error code 255 in cfx
2)why this error occurring after some iteration?
3)is it because of improper installation of cfx?

please help me.
please find the attachment for the error details.

Nithesh

1)what is meant by error code 255 in cfx?

It is associated with MPICH2 parallel runs.

2)why this error occurring after some iteration?

Usually this error occurs at the start of run, due to RSH problems. But in your case it occurs after 70 iterations and I think this may be due to loss of network connection. I frequently encounter this type of errors and most of the times it was due to network failure.

3)is it because of improper installation of cfx?

No, I dont think so, because if there would have been any problem with installation the run would not start at all.

Thanks for reply ,Mr pavitran,
1)there are different parallel run options, what is the use of it.
2)there is less chance of network failure other than network failure any cause for this error.
It's W likes this.

1)there are different parallel run options, what is the use of it.

CFX v11.0 - PVM & MPICH
CFX v13.0 - MPICH2 & HP MPI

These are different algorithms used for parallel jobs. Each of them has their own merits & demerits, which you can find in CFX Help file.

2)there is less chance of network failure other than network failure any cause for this error.

Well I do not have idea about the other possible causes. But could you tell me on which OS (UNIX or Windows) are you working and whether your connecting to it remotely.

Nitesh, the following thread gives more information about other possible causes related to error code 255, http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/cfx...fx-solver.html.

I had discussed about this error code with the support people and they said that this occurs due to solver failure, which can be due to license, network failure & etc ....

That's right, the 255 error number is caused when the solver executable is lost. This can be network problems on a parallel run, but can be when the solver has crashed, when the executable has been terminated for other reasons or lots of other reasons.

I used a different computer to solve same problem and it worked.
computer has 16GB(upgraded) memory.simulation done.No error 255.

but my questions are
[*]why 32GB(upgraded) computer giving error 255.?[*]can you tell me what is meaning of memory allocation in solver manager?[*]what is its value?[*]what is its role in solver manager?

thanks
Nithesh

I have had the same error on one occasion. However, after recieving the error i tried to repeat the same simulation and it was successful. So my guess is that it could be your network which disconnected or could be your antivirus messing with cfx.
