hello every body

I have been using AVL fire v.8.6 as my CFD tool for some years now and I have done some simulations with it. right now I'm trying to simulate a dual fuel (methane+diesel) mode. namely, methan is a primary fuel in the intake and a diesel pilot fuel directly injected to the cylinder.

my problem is that diesel pilot fuel cannot injected and a liquid methan is injected directly into the cylinder. hence, there is only methane mass fraction in 2D results of simulation.

I would really appreciate if any one could help me on this case.

Thanks guys

I am doing a similar work, Did you work out the solution? [I am using fluent for my work]

hi, i am also simulating the blended fuel using AVL Fire.

do you have experiences on spray process of blended fuel? such as ethanol-gasoline or methanol-diesel and the like.

i face the problem that in the liquid property of spray module, i don't know whether the index scalar should be set to 1 or 2 for ethanol and gasoline respectively, such as 1 to ethanol and 2 to gasoline, or 1 to both ethanol and gasoline.

On the other hand, is it right for species transport set to general, or standard?

This problem makes me in trouble these days.
I am very appreciated if u can help me. Thank u very much.

hi
Do you really could simulation the blended fuel using AVL Fire?!
What is your fire version? (8.6 or upper?)
I could not active general species transport for simulation of blended fuel up to now, because general species transport can not active together with combustion model!!
But, my problem is easier than your problem and there is diesel fuel spray as well as methane is added to air in the intake port and I think that do not need to active general species transport. I could not liquid property of spray module for diesel pilot injection and liquid methane is injected.
I would like to know the typical setting needed for such a simulation.
If you are interested to share ideas over this and blended fuel send me an email on khatamnezhad@yahoo.com.

thanks a lot

Got similar problem with you...

However if the target is only pressure prediction, The easy way is change value of LHV.

To: khantamnejad
try ignition model : diesel ignited gas

Plz mail me at gusanang@rocketmail.com to further discussion.

Dear friends,

I successfully simulated ESE diesel simulation with different egr rates. Now i am using multi component evaporation model to to use ethanol and diesel blends.

Parameters are as follows:

Parameters Range
Blend (% of Ethanol) 0, 10, 20
EGR (%) 0,10, 20, 30
Start of Injection 9 and 14 degree BTDC

settings employed
Initial conditions:
Multi component hydrocarbon
diesel 0.9, 0.8
ethanol 0.1, 0.2 respectively.

But in results i observed the lower calorific value 42,51, and 56 MJ/kg for diesel , 10% ethanol and 20% ethanol fuels respectively.
(I have not specified the lower calorific value and heat formation value in initial conditions blend cases) Finally it affecting IP and Indicated inefficiencies @ ESE ENGINE OUTPUT RESULTS. please help to resolve..

Your valuable advice is appreciated.

Hello all !

I am trying to simulate diesel injection in a spray box ,in AVL FIRE ESE Diesel. I just want to inject diesel in a box and see how far it goes (Penetration length)Could you kindly advice me regarding the boundary conditions ? Should I take inlet as mass flow rate or pressure ? I will be taking Outlet and side walls as BC: Wall. Do I Need to take the BC: Symmetry ? If yes, why ?

(This is the first time I am using AVL FIRE. Could you please give any advice / documentation for spray box i.e. Spray Adjustment in ESE Diesel )
Thanks for your help
