hi everyone

ansys 19.0 stuck on 95% in the setup (instalation) when i try to install it on ubuntu 18.04 ,when i check the install.err file it say this :

Hi, I'm not entirely sure, but a couple of things that stand out for me in the error file:


1) The last line says that it can't find 'libpng12.so.0', which suggests there is a library that it is looking for that it can't find. Perhaps check to see if you have 'libpng12' installed?


2) Some of the lines in the error file include the text: 'rpm: not found'. rpm is the package manager used by the Red Hat/Fedora Linux distributions; however, you say you are installing for Ubuntu? Are you sure you have the correct ANSYS package for Ubuntu (should use the apt package manager, also dpkg/Synaptic)?

for your second question , i don't really know what packages are missing in my ubuntu thought i had read in the manual that the suported distros are redhat ,susse,and centos ,i wonder if it's possible to install ansys19 on ubuntu 18.04.

Red Hat, OpenSuse and CentOS are all based on the rpm package manager, which the installer seems to be looking for. If the documentation doesn't say that Ubuntu is supported, then it probably won't work, because applications that are packaged for one Linux package manager generally won't be compatible with others.

If that is the case, you could try installing CentOS in a virtual machine (e.g. Virtualbox) and see if ANSYS will install on that. If so, then you might want to consider installing CentOS on a dedicated partition on your hard disk, to get the best performance. You can have Ubuntu and CentOS installed at the same time on different partitions; however, you may have to re-partition your hard-disk - if so, back up your data!

libpng12 was replaced by libpng16 in (you might not have guessed it) ubuntu16.

You need to install the missing libpng12 library or wait for a future version of Ansys that uses libpng16 or maybe just find the right installer for your distro.

There are a few steps to make it work on a Debian based distro though, but you can find that information here (that guide is based on ANSYS 18.2 for linux Mint 18.x, but it still works if you update all text with the version accordingly).

Well, the installation process doesn't pass 89%, but the extraction of the selected licensed products is finished. The process stuck here:

Workbench and ANSYS Fluent start, but design modeler didn't until I have found a solution today by adding

export TERM = xterm

to my bashrc!
Now design modeler runs properly...

However I'm facing another problem, Ansys meshing opens properly but it hangs when I press update or generate mesh...does it work for you?
Furthermore I get the following warning with Fluent:

  Warning: Cannot find hardware accelerated drivers. Performance might be severely impacted.

I would focus on the last problem with the drivers. Make sure that you have installed the drivers for your graphics card (hopefully you have an Nvidia card). Note that the latest driver is not always the best.


From my experience Fluent has always been easier to run under non-supported distros, compared to Design Modeler and Meshing, so you should make sure that Fluent works first.

I got the same problem when I tried installing both v191 and v192 on Fedora 26. The installtion process was just stuck at the 'arcnode'. I closed the installation window and I could run fluent normally (mesh was generated by my collegue), but when I tried to mesh by myself with ICEM, the window just wouldn't reply any information after I press the button (without information about 'hardware accelerated drivers' like you received).

It worked fine on Debian 9 with ANSYS V2021R1.
Icemcfd and fluent works.
The problem is that the workbench does not works: when I try to run runwb2 it returns the following error:
