[Other] Connecting 3D bodies in Ansys Design Modeler

Hello all,

I try to design a catalytic converter in 3D with ansys 12.1 design modeler. I connect different parts of the converter(i.e. inlet pipe, connecting cone, monolithic chamber, etc) with "skin/loft" feature. The problem is that when I try to use the model in Fluent, it recognize the connecting parts between different parts as "wall" while all of them are just "interior". I tried to use "Named Selection" feature in both Design Modeler and Meshing tools to define these connecting parts as just interior but I could not succeed. Also, I defined all the three parts I have in my model as Fluids in design modeler but still when I use meshing tool , it recognize the connecting sketches as "bonded-solid to solid" , which I could not change, and so treat them as wall. I will appreciate it if someone has a solution for it.

You probably need to join the parts together as a multibody part in DM...

Right now it sees them as several parts that are touching, it will mesh each separately, etc. Once they are a multibody part, it will mesh it all at once.

The problem is that I need to have different parts in my scheme, because for example one part is porous and in one of them I have reaction. So, I had to freeze each part in DM to have them on Fluent for further work. Do you know a way that I could have different parts in DM and meanwhile it just recognize them as a continuum media?

Sure, go ahead and make the multibody part so that it will all be meshed conformal... Then (before or after meshing) right click on each body and create a named selection (similar to how you lable inlets and outlets, but make sure that the selection is for bodies not faces). These named selections tag each volume for Fluent bocos (just as they tagged faces). So you could name one porous, another Fluid1, another Fluid2, another solid or whatever...

I would like to create different parts ( different connected volume) but all being part of one body. I have not found anything on the forum.
