Problem with DesignModeler

Hello,
I am a new learner of ANSYS. I installed ANSYS 17.2 the latest student version and I believe i installed it correctly. But I tried to draw something and used DesignModeler, I have not seen any x-y-z arrow like shown in video (shown in right bottom) . The screen shot I attached gave what I have when I opened Geometry that part. Also, When I tried to draw a simple rectangle, that geometry/drawing would not stay in the plane(xy plane), which is disappeared. I think it's not normal and there must be something wrong with it. The interface I attached shows nothing with xyz arrows and 2D coordinate system. Any input would be appreciated. |

Hello Wang,
I’m not quite sure about your issue, but the general guide line to create a geometry in DM is to first insert a sketch in the plane of interest, say XY plane, then select the sketch and click on the “Sketching” tab (just above the “Details View”). Sketch whatever shape you want. Then generate your shape using the “Generate” button (yellow icon above the extrude icon). Then go back in the Modelling tab and you’ll see your sketch. You can then use a 3D tool operation as extrude / revolve / sweep etc. Hope this helps. |

First of all, I didn't see any coordinate in xy or yz or xz plane, which would be helpful for drawing. I chose xy plane, and hit New Sketch, and go Sketching, selected line or rectangle, and started to draw on xy plane. After i release the mouse, the shape disappeared, and "Generate" button won't help. |

Sounds strange. Are you sure you’re in the proper sketch plane ? (meaning when you create a new sketch, say under the XY plane, then you need to select the sketch in the model tree. I recommend you then use the “look at face / plane / sketch” -> then select the sketching tab and draw the shape you want).

Yes, I followed those steps. But It still didn't show anything on xy plane. I didn't know if it's the problem of my student version. I attached the screenshot when I added a new sketch (rectangle) under xy plane. Like before, when I release the mouse, the shape was gone and led me to the "modify" part.
(Smile) I didn't expect I would have this struggle at the beginning of my CFD experience. |

Do you have the same issue when you try to draw lines / polylines / circles ?

Yes, the shapes just not stayed in plane. Also what's strange is that i don't have coordinate (x-y axises) you know, sometimes it helps to draw something.

The strange thing is that your sketch plane is visible (Sketch visibility is on "Show sketch") and you have 4 edges under the sketch property tab.
You should try the "zoom to fit" or F7 shortcut to recenter the view. Regarding the drawing, you should high light the sketch you want to draw in and click on the "look at face/ plane / sketch" icon (cf image below) Then under the modelling tab, go to the Settings vertical tab and then click grid > Show in 2D |

I did what you described. Also my software didn't show the little xyz arrows at right bottom even I selected ruler and triad. I can see Ruler but not triad. I still can't show my drawing

Well I must admit that I have never encountered that kind of error. My conclusion would be that you have an issue with the Ansys version you're using. I would recommend to try to reinstall it and give it another try.

The solution is: Parallels->Control Center->Configuration of Windows (gear icon)->Hardware->Graphics->Advanced Settings->3D Acceleration: Disabled
