Hello,
i got a problem with the interface between the distributor and the runner of a Francis-Turbine. "Fluent" says that the interface overlap but the diameter of distributor-outlet and runner-inlet are the same. This looks like an resolution problem in ICEM. Here some pictures. problem.jpg problem_surface.jpg assembly.PNG resolution_1.JPG resolution_2.JPG Why is there this burr on the edge and why is the mesh-surface piecewise linear. Is there any chance to solve this problem, to improve the circularity? By the way this is for my bachelor's thesis and the geometrie and blockings are given. I appreciate your help, Best, Michael Last edited by Bembei; October 22, 2015 at 12:50. Reason: new pictures |

Thanks for the response Far,
I have chosen these settings for the interface: Interface_setup.JPG The preview mesh motion works and gives the following resultes: mesh-0010.jpg mesh-0011.jpg mesh-0012.jpg I'm using the "Mesh Motion" methode. Is this the right setup for the interface? Thank you in advance |

choose only periodic repeats as I am assuming you want to have stator-rotor interface. Un select any thing else.

yes i want to have stator-rotor interface:
Interface.JPG : Interface is yellow. I have chosen the following setting for the interface Interface_setup.JPG I did not choose the periodic repeat because I don't have a periodic geometrie. I have made a calculetion and it worked, thanks! But Fluent reports "Info: Interface zones overlap for mesh interface interface-sc-runner. This could adversely affect your solution." It's only an info, can i gnore it? |

Ok. Since you are modeling complete (360) geometry, therefore you dont need to select the periodic repeats.
I cannot recall exactly where this command is located, but there is different option to be selected to radial and axial machines in interface. |

I found the solution. ICEM has a limited resolution of surfaces and curves thats made my interface non‐axisymmetric. The problem was fixed by creating an interface surface and curves over only 1 degrees, and copying those to the full
360 degrees giving a much better representation. Thanks Far for your help. |
