Hi all
I am meshing a domain with a cylinder in the middle. The cylinder has a small height so it does not reach the limits of the domain (see picture). Geometry.jpg I can generate the mesh the way I want it before deleting the blocks inside the cylinder. See pictures. The 3D mesh is formed of a repetition of the section show in the image "mesh_section". mesh_section.png mesh_section_detail.png The plan will be now to delete the 5 blocks that "are inside the cylinder". In the picture "mesh_section_detail", blocks 30, 42, 45, 41, 46. The problem is that when I delete this 5 blocks, weird associations appear and the mesh gets terrible (see pictures). weird_associations.png incorrect_mesh_section.jpg The message continues below. |

Even when I correct the associations the mesh is still terrible close to the cylinder.
correct_associations.png However, in both cases, the mesh still remains correct in the lower and upper boundaries of the domain. mesh_lower_boundary.jpg What I really don't understand is that the associations are the same in the upper and lower boundaries as in the cylinder, why is not the mesh the same? Find also the project in ICEM in case someone wants to have a closer look. Mesh_ICEM.zip Thank you very much for your help! I really appreciate it Lanzagorta |

I am going to summarize the question in this post, because maybe it was too long previously.
I have a 3d domain with a cylinder in the middle and I want to analyse the flow around the cylinder. The cylinder is of limit height so it does not reach the boundaries of the domain. I can achieve a mesh exactly as I want it, but covering the whole domain including the cylinder. So, I just need to delete the blocks inside the cylinder, without modifying the mesh outside the cylinder. Does someone know how to do it? Please help |

Hi Lanzagorta,
Does the cylinder have covers? In case you have covers...Did you associate cover surfaces with block faces? |
