Hello, I am trying to analyse aerodynamics of a race car, but there are some problems,
1. After I import from Inventor, it gives errors like face-face inconsistency?
2. When I put enclosure around the body, the enclosure adds 20 more bodies?
3. I can not import inventor assembly(or even in parabolic format) to Design Modeler as a single solid body, there are 21 bodies and parts after importing?
4. I can not do any operations like translate, symmetry in Design Modeler?
I have searched through the previous threads, but none of them solved my problem
Can anyone help with one of these problems? I can share the geometry file in case somebody wants?
Best wishes

Hi Sifet,

Can I suggest to post few pics of your geometry.
- What format are you using to import geometry? try different format.
- After enclosure select 20 bodies to highlight it and try to figure out why they are made out of nowhere!
-Once you fix these problems others will fall into places

Cheers

Please see the link for the geometry file. I attach step file and x_t file format

I have done the steps you mentioned but in vain
Thanks best wishes

please post a few pics - I don't want to download random files from the internet.
also, please use an appropriate topic name WITHOUT SHOUTING AT ME!

I just explained a way for the body transformations (question 4) in your other thread.

Dear Maxim,

The title was not intentional. I am sorry if I offended you.
Please, see some pictures of my design attached below.

By the way, I used different types of geometry files I can not find the one with the enclosure of 20 bodies, however I attach the other problematic files

Best wishes

that's a very complex geometry. Do you have a supercomputer or cluster for your calculations? I would say that you won't be able to calculate the airflow around a race car on your 4 or 8 cores desktop PC...

My approach with such a complex geometry would be to simplify it in CAD before I import it in Design Modeler. Get rid of all unnecessary details like screws (holes) and the bodies that are not the 'outside surface'.

try to import smaller and simpler parts step by step, check if you can to the body transformation features (move, etc) and you will find out which geometry is the culprit for your error message.

edit: oh, I just saw that you 'froze' your model. Might be the explanation why you can't move things around...

Thank you, I will try to simplify body.
And by the way, I froze the body for creating an enclosure around it.
Thanks Best wishes

What do you reccommend me for simplification? What can I do and which parts do you suggest ? For example, there must be some connection between tyre and chassis, how can I remove the small parts here? And do I need to fill the holes in the tyres after removing the bolts there?
SOrry for the long question, but I want to solve the problem
best wishes

You have to understand the especially the small details such as corners and small geometries are hard to mesh. That's why it is important to simplify the geometry with smooth surfaces. Race car teams with millions of $$ have the PC capacity to model more details.
In case you do that project for school - discuss with your professor if you can concentrate on just one part such as the spoiler or the hood. You do realize that whole research teams _only_ simulate one item (turbine blade, wing, spoiler)? Trying to simulate a whole race car with your desktop machine is not really realistic.

Back to your problem:
- model the tires as cylinders for example.
- get rid of parts in your assembly that are not on the surface.
- get rid of small details that around not important

I would re-do the model in CAD and then import.
You can also use the 'delete face/edge/etc' feature in Design Modeler.
Yes, fill screw holes so that you have an even surface.

you could try to mesh one tire and then you will understand the difficulties with meshing a complex geometry...
