I have a tri surface mesh of about 220,000 elements on an aircraft. And a prism layer mesh on top of it which have 40 layers. And octree beyond that.

I just found out I need 6 more layers to be added to the prisms to get 46 layers in total which will give me smooth transitions.

Can I use the existing mesh and add more prism layers on top of the existing one?

diamondx will become famous soon enough
I don't think you add add more layer on top without generating a new mesh. What you can do is split the existing one to have more layers

Thanks Diamondx. I thought so. Yeah I needed to increase the prism mesh height. because I thought it will provide me smooth transition. Hence the 6 more layers. I managed to resolve it somehow by decreasing the volume mesh size towards the surface.

However, I have a couple of more questions. When I have a smooth Delunay AF mesh of quality above 0.3 and I grow prism layers after that, the quality of some volume elements fall below 0.05. I tried smoothing with prisms and pyramids frozen however the quality of volume mesh doesn't improve. Any ideas how to solve this problem?

Is there a better way to generate a decent size volume tetra mesh with prisms having smooth transition when I have a wall y+ =1 and initial height of 0.00003m or lower.

Answer what you can and I will be more than grateful.

Also when I smooth the volume mesh more than one time fluent gives me the critical grid error. If it is just once fluent accepts the grid. Is smoothing making the mesh worse actually?

You should take a look at simon's tips and trick on how to smooth prism+tetra, just google it you you'll have a look. Depending on your geometry , you can't have perfect quality, and there is nothing you can do about. Just try to minimize the number of bad elements. Simon's tips and trick is a powerful tool... good luck
I can't really now if smoothing causes the critical grid error, usually no, before exporting the mesh, do a check up in the edit mesh, look for possible errors... hope it can help

Thank you Ali (Diamondx) . I have managed to fix it. Read your pdf file(thanks for creating it) and simon's tips and tricks
