Hello guys

I am trying to generate a structure mesh for a 3D pipe with a sharp angle junction which is shown below.

As you can see I have already generated an initial mesh for the geometry. However, the maximum skewness increases by reducing the junction angle.

The blocking can be seen in the attachment. Is there any alternative blocking strategy which can be implemented in order to improve the skewness near the junction?

70 degree junction --->>> Fluent max skewness = 0.67
60 degree junction --->>> Fluent max skewness = 0.74
45 degree junction --->>> Fluent max skewness = 0.83

Regards

You can try to do the ogrid not in one step but in two separate steps. E.g. you do the arc first and then do the rest. You can probably improve the mesh quality by moving vertices in proper positions. There is also a tutorial "Hexa Mesh Generation for an elbow part" which is pretty similar to your problem.

Thank you very much kad.
I will try the new blocking strategy and let you know.

Best wishes

Would you please tell me the order of O-grid blocking step by step?
I have tried to get the same blocking as yours but something is clearly wrong with my blocking...

------

Edit: I think I have manged to get the blocking similar to yours.
I was using blocks selection method to create O-grid blocks instead of face selection.

I created ogrid for the arc first. Did you try a blocking method like we worked out in your bifurcation thread?

Not yet, however I was thinking about that too.
I will try to adapt that.

Thank you very much.
