Hi,
I used Gambit for meshing during my college days (4 years back) and it has been a while since I moved out of CFD. Now I am getting back into CFD and I could use some guidance on meshing softwares. I know that ANSYS Meshing and ICEM CFD are two options but, could anyone advise which would be better off to start with? I have found few odd threads which discuss this but, they are specific to some scenario and I would like to know this in terms of the current learning and future working aspects. FYI, I would be simulating hypersonic external/internal flows for simple 2D and 3D geometries. And, as always, your help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

If you're only starting back into it, then I'd definitely recommend ANSYS Meshing. It's relatively simple, straightforward and you can still get a good quality mesh.
ICEM, while more powerful, requires a lot more experience to get going.

Yup, I agree. As a general question, ANSYS Meshing is the right answer. It actually includes much of the ICEM CFD technology under the hood (along with great technology from other sources), it is just presented in a way that is generally easier to use.

I think you can find them under your ICEM installation directory, like: C:\Program Files\ANSYS Inc\v130\icemcfd\Samples\CFD_Tutorial_Files |
