Hi, I'm having major issues trying to do a 'Boolean>Extract' from an enclosure. Originally the error I had was 'error-non manifold bodies'. So I closed up any holes to create a solid body.

Now when I attempt to do a Boolean Extract I get the error 'Bolean operation failed, Context: Geometry Engine, while generating Feature Boolean2'.

I'm using ANSYS 14.0-Fluent, trying to do a Fluent-CFD analysis of air flow over a kite. Here's a screen shot, please help...

should work, maybe you can try to make an actual geometry of a box instead of making an enclosure and try to use the boolean command with that then

I've tried creating offset planes, sketching the outlines of the fluid domain & then>create solid body from sketches>create>skin loft>... But still get the same result when I attempt a Boolean subtraction?

It looks like I might have to use the oriinal 'surface body' model in ICEM-CFD. I wanted to avoid that at all costs, as I'm new to ANSYS & have limited time.

Do you think anyone on the site would do the Boolean subtract with the attached files for a fee?

Works fine in DM v15. Here is the agdb (won't open in v14) and a converted step file of only the surrounding domain.

agdb: https://www.dropbox.com/s/r53bye3rtp...Geom.agdb?dl=0
step: https://www.dropbox.com/s/iwto4h4zku8itwi/Geom.stp?dl=0
Hope it helps.

Hi jrunsten,

What steps did you take to create the fluid domain? The 2 methods I've tried are;

  1. Tools>Enclosure>Set details ie subtract>target body/tool body>Generate...
  2. Insert Planes>Sketch domain ends>Create solid body from sketches>Create>skin loft>Apply>Generate...
Is there a different method to create the 'fluid domain'? If I can get this subtraction completed, I get on with meshing etc. Got to have graphs completed by mid-week!

I just generated your project, nothing else. So you are doing it correctly, but maybe v15 can handle your geometry better. Maybe the area where your curved surfaces meet is a bit hard to handle for DM, i dont know.

But cant you just move on with the step file i sent you? If the domain is not right in size, just cut or extrude it to desired dimensions?

Did you actually manage to Boolean>subtract the kite from the fluid domain?

Normally my model is imported first, it automatically goes to a default position. Would I import the fluid domain (box) in the same way? Then import my kite model, if so how do I position my kite inside the fluid domain i.e centrally?

Sorry if this is obvious but I've only been working with ANSYS for a few days. Thanks...

Hi jrunsten,

I'm just back form Uni after having successfully meshed the kite.

There's no way I'd have sussed this out myself, I was going in circles. So thanks again you really helped me out!

Regards, Mark

I keep receiving an error whilst creating an enclosure onto a model in Ansys 17.2

My model got 124 parts/bodies. Could this be the issue?

What could be the best solution to it?
