I am trying to create a boundary layer on the same face where i did mapped face meshing. When i select my geometry, the inflation definition turns into invalid method. Is there a way to fix this?

Can you explain more? Or attach some pics? What's the error exactly...?

Hi Amin,
Here is a screenshot of the error. In the second column under definition, it says invalid method. When i update the mesh, there are no boundary layers created. |

As appear on the pic, you don't select a valid setting.
If you want create an inflation for a body in long a face you must select body in geometry tab and select face or faces in boundary tab! Also if your model is 2d and you want create inflation for a face in long an edge you should select face(s) and edge(s) respectively! |

Amin, When i did inflation with any other type of meshing (instead of mapped face meshing), i was able to. Also, i am selecting the correct body in geometry tab.
I have found some other threads regarding this issue with inflation in mapped faced meshing, but nobody found the correct answer. |

I'm never facing this issue!
Is your model 2D!? Do you try for changing value of other inflation setting? Dear Ravinder! maybe attaching some pics from your model help us for helping you... |

Hi Amin,
Yes, i am working in 2D The project that i am working on is confidential, so it restricts my ability to post any pictures. But if i also created a simple rectangle 2D (pipe) and it has the same issue with putting inflation on mapped face meshing. I appreciate you helping me. |

Oh! Strange!
you're right! if using mapped mesh the inflation suppressed but when suppress mapped mesh the inflation working! This is too weird! I will try to find any solution for this! |

As I found, in ANSYS Meshing we can not using inflation for mapped meshes!
If you insist that you have a structure mesh with inflation, maybe you can not using mapped (use pave or...) ! Either inflation or mapped! maybe this threat help you http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ans...s-meshing.html |

Hi Amin,
Thanks for the help. I figured out that its a default in ansys when it does not allow to do inflation on a mapped face meshing. I tried an alternative way by creating a think surface close to the boundary and doing separate meshing on that surface. IT WORKED Regards |

The thread is rather old, but for those who like me might have had issues with this, I will post an easy solution:
After applying inflation to the entire geometry, insert a new multizone method and then apply the face mashing and voila, problem solved. Hope this helps Mehran |

I am unable to do face meshing here. how can I create a structured mesh in the nozzle surface? though I have made an inflation layer
