[DesignModeler] How to create fluid body as I first designed the solid part through solid works?

I am quite beginner in working with Ansys modeling. I intend to simulate air flow between a stator and a rotor through Ansys fluent. As you know, I have to define the right geometry. Hopefully, I am an expert in working with Solidworks, and I could draw the solid part of the geometry very quickly. But I don’t know how to define the fluid part!! Would someone please give me hint?

I guess, the fluid volume is inside your solid body and you have some inlets and outlets? In DesignModeler, once you imported your CAD-File, you can close these inlets and outlets by some simple additional bodys. Then, there is some build in function that can create a fluid body from your enclosed volume.

Many thanks for your reply. To clarify the problem, I have enclosed a file titled “problem description”. As a further expiation, I am going to model air flow from inside the stator which pulled inside the rotor blades, then the air collected outside of rotor that is surrounded by Housing. After that, the fluid passes by windings of stator into inside.



I already modeled the solid part and imported it to the Ansys workbench. I also used the “Boolean” commend to define the fluid part, but I am not sure if this is the right commend! Could you please take a look at another attached file and advise me.

I just subtracted the whole domain from solid part. It is worth mentioning that I haven't started to mesh this, and yo be honest i don't know how to do so!! But can you elucidate what you mentioned above?

In your view, what I modeled till now is correct? Please also tell me where I can define fluid interfaces for moving parts (while meshing or in Fluent!!?). I think I do need to use moving reference frame.
Moreover, what types of mesh is more appropriate to yield more accurate results?

Up to now, it looks fine to me. I don't have moving parts, so I can't help you. Do you have ICEM for meshing? Your domain does not look too complicated to get a good blocking in ICEM.

This is great; actually I am working with Ansys-fluent 13 and I intend to do meshing via it... It seems they are the same, aren't they?!

No, Ansys Meshing and ICEM are two different programs.
