Hi all,
I have imported a coordinates file to create a 3D curve. It will close up the curve. When i tried to revolve a line body along an axis, it will give me an error telling me that my axis intersects all profiles. I'm trying to create something like a "bowl". But when i create points and revolve, it can give me the "bowl" shape. But its not a surface. How can i solve this? Thanks alot! I have attached the coordinates file. 3D_Coordinates_ANSYS.txt Last edited by natur3; November 6, 2012 at 09:42. |

You can't revolve something that extends across the axis of revolution. In this case, both negative and positive values of z and x exist. I imported only the first 53 points and was able to revolve the line body. I closed the center with a surface patch. If you wan't to create a surface more exact than that, which involves all of your coordinates, I think you will have difficulties in Design modeler.

I have attached my projects after revolving.

Simply because the first 53 points describes one of the slopes from beginning to the (almost) axis. I bet you could do the same with point 54-105, or somewhere around that number, but it was more convenient to choose the first since i didnt need to change the point numbers in the point list.
Done simply by opening the text file and deleting the rest of the points. Now if you do this and the import all of the points as a curve again you can see that the "bowl" represent these points pretty well, but it's not perfect: |

I see.
So if I want to be more accurate, I have to get the points from the beginning to exactly at the axis? |

Well yeah, but other than that, the rest of the points won't be represented (in case it's not completely axisymmetric, which it doesn't look like). If you revolve another 8th of you point set, you might get a different surface. What data is it anyway? Measurements of some kind?

I see,
Its actually the outer cornea of a human eye. (From optical coherence tomography images) I still have the other parts of the eye to model, eg, iris, inner cornea, etc Since I'm still learning ANSYS, I was thinking to start from the outside, and continue to model the rest after I have model 1 part. |

I have managed to remove the connection of the lines. Now i have 4 individual lines and if possible I want to revolve this 4 lines into one single surface as it will be more accurate.

Can't be solved using a Revolve. Maybe someone has some suggestions, but I think you need another tool rather than Design Modeler.

Other tools?
So far, I only know autocad and ansys can construct 3d models. Anyone has any other suggestions/software? |
