Hi all....As a part of a project i need to do a CFD analysis on a formula car. Firstly i want to do the CFD of the raw chassis

I cant import a solidworks model of a roll cage.It shows an error symbol when i click generate.... Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I use ANSYS Fluent v13.
The roll cage consists of many solid (non hollow) rods.

Also, the roll cage is surrounded by thickened, mirrored surfaces(lofted).without this exterior panelling i can import the model though i face problems in later stages

I am new to this software as i went through some tutorials last week..

I would be grateful if you could reply ASAP....

May be errors in the geometry or in the path to the file. Attach SolidWorks file.

diamondx will become famous soon enough
what i sometimes do : in solidworks, i export as IGES.
In Design modeler: i import it as IGES.
try this...

Ralen ,thanks for your concern....
I checked for errors in geometry and the path....but i couldnt find any.
I attached solid works file as you said....

But the model was successfully imported after removing the exterior paneling...Actually i want to do the CFD of the this exterior...

Hi Ali...

Thanks for your reply..
I tried doing that..but after doing " file >>save as>>change save as type to IGES>>ok "
The solid works crashes and that saved document is not found...But this conversion works for the model without any panelling....
This external thickened surface is causing all sorts of problems...I had problems with solid works in thickening and mirroring lofted surfaces..but some how i made one model surface and now i cant analyse it.... ;(

Hello, I don't know the geometry you are studying but Save as IGES always works for me.
You may already did it but when you save as IGES check the Export Options. There is a surface representation/system preference for ANSYS. Changing this and other preferences could help you with the import problem.
