Description:
POSITION: Doctoral Studentship - Computational and Analytical Modeling
in Atmospheric Science.

We are inviting applications for an NSF-funded Doctoral Studentship to
conduct research on atmospheric turbulent multiphase flows using
analytical and computational modeling techniques. This study focuses
on the marine atmospheric boundary layer of a hurricane laden with
polydisperse evaporating sea spray. In-depth understanding and
accurate modeling of the interaction between ocean spray and turbulent
airflow under high-wind conditions of a hurricane is essential
for improving forecast accuracy of the intensity of hurricanes and severe storms.

The selected candidate will actively contribute to the development and
implementation of a mathematical and computational model for a marine
atmospheric boundary layer laden with evaporating polydisperse sea
spray. The model will enable us to accurately describe the effect of
ocean spray on the air-sea exchange of momentum, heat, and moisture in
high-wind conditions of a tropical cyclone. This research project
combines the fields of applied mathematics, computational fluid
dynamics, and atmospheric science.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. B.S. or M.S. degree either in Applied Mathematics, Atmospheric Sciences,
Physics, Engineering, or other relevant field.
2. Good English proficiency proven by TOEFL or analogous exam score.
3. GRE exam.

HIGHLY DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Experience with numerical methods and programming skills in Matlab
and/or fortran90.
2. Experience with Mathematical Modeling.
3. Experience with Fluid Dynamics and/or Atmospheric Science.

APPOINTMENT DATE: Fall 2025

If you are interested in this opportunity, you need to

I. formally apply to the Applied Science & Technology (AST)
Ph.D. program at

during the application process. However, if admitted, they must submit
official scores directly from the testing agency before registration.

2. Foreign Transcript Evaluation:
Applicants may submit an unofficial course-by-course credential evaluation
by SpanTran, WES, or ECE along with their foreign transcript(s) during the
application process. If foreign transcripts are not in English, they must be
accompanied by an English translation. If admitted, an official course-by-course
evaluation report by SpanTran, WES, or ECE is required, and the evaluating
agency must send it directly to the Graduate College.
