Description: | |
Project Description This interdisciplinary PhD project will leverage state-of-the-art data-driven methodologies to enhance the simulation and understanding of complex fluid dynamics, with a particular focus on multi-phase flow and GPU-based computation. The successful candidate will work on integrating machine learning algorithms with existing CFD methods to improve both accuracy and computational efficiency in fluid mechanics simulations. This will include developing and implementing advanced techniques to simulate multi-phase flows and utilizing GPU-based computation to significantly accelerate simulation processes. The project provides an excellent opportunity for collaboration with leading academics and industry experts, offering a unique platform to contribute to cutting-edge research in fluid dynamics and computational engineering. Responsibilities - Develop and implement machine learning models (with Python) for enhancing fluid mechanics simulations. - Analyze large datasets and conduct extensive simulations. - Collaborate with team members from the University of Exeter and external partners. - Publish and present research findings in reputable journals and at international conferences. Funding This studentship is fully funded for three years and includes tuition fees at the UK rate and an annual stipend of £19,237. Eligibility - Applicants must hold a first or upper second-class honours degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a closely related field. - Strong mathematical skills and proficiency in programming (specially Python, HPC) are required. - Experience in computational fluid dynamics (CFD), machine learning, or both, is highly advantageous. Entry requirements Applicants for this studentship must have obtained, or be about to obtain, a First or Upper Second Class UK Honours degree, or the equivalent qualifications gained outside the UK, in an appropriate area of science or technology.
