A new position at postdoctoral level is now open in the Cardiovascular Engineering
Group at the University of Bern’s ARTORG Center for Biomedical Engineering Research
for its spin-off, ValTech Lifesciences (ValTech).
ValTech is developing a next-generation heart valve prosthesis, which incorporates
patented features to reduce thrombogenicity. We are currently working with external
MedTech firms to test pre-market prototypes. For that, we are looking for applicants
with a strong background in fluid mechanics and enthusiasm for entrepreneurial work to
join our team.
The applicant should hold a PhD degree in mechanical/aerospace/biomedical engineering
(or equivalent). Exceptional MSc degree holders, justified by extensive research
outputs, may also be considered. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated,
results-driven, with excellent knowledge in fluid mechanical analysis, turbulence,
and/or hemodynamics. A good understanding of the cardiovascular system is considered
an advantage. Expertise in one of the following areas is required:
-- Experimental fluid mechanics: tomographic particle image velocimetry and/or
particle tracking velocimetry; instrumentation and control; data acquisition; Python
programming.
-- Computational fluid mechanics: fluid-structure interaction; numerical modeling of
physical and/or biological processes; experience with high-performance computing
infrastructures; C/C++ programming.
Salaries at the postdoctoral level start at CHF 81,000 per year. The exact amount is
determined by the University’s department of Human Resources. The position is
initially limited to four months, with the possibility to extend. Excellent performer
will have the chance to join our team as a co-founder.
Applications should be emailed to Prof. Dr. Dominik Obrist (dominik.obrist@unibe.ch)
and Dr. Shaokai Zheng (shaokai.zheng@unibe.ch) with the subject “ValTech position”.
Attached must be a motivation letter (max. one page), CV (max. two pages), and list of
publications combined into one PDF.
Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
