The Chair of Energy Plant Technology in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Ruhr University Bochum (LEAT) is among the leading research groups in Germany in the field of numerical modelling and simulation of reactive particle systems for process industry or energy conversion systems.

Within a project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the accuracy of numerical simulations on reacting packed beds passed by reacting flows is investigated. In this context, models describing the temporal evolution of the particles and their interaction with other particles, as well as the surrounding gas phase, are needed.

Your tasks:
- Develop and implement physical models within an in-house multi-phase numerical simulation tool.
- Perform simulations of non-reacting and reacting packed beds.
- Investigate measures for code optimization.
- Maintain the simulation tool in coordination with other code developers.


Your profile:

The ideal candidate holds a Master in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or Chemistry and has a sound knowledge in C++ programming, fluid mechanics, numerical methods and gas phase reactions.

Proven experience in programming, Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations and/or simulation of reacting/particle-laden flows (especially with OpenFOAM) is an advantage.

Proficient knowledge of the English language is necessary. Mastering of, or willingness to learn, the German language is considered a valuable asset.
