Computational Aerosciences and Multiphysics Laboratory (CAML) in the Department
of Aerospace Engineering at Mississippi State University (MSU), United States
invites applications for multiple fully funded Ph.D. positions, starting Fall
2024.
Located in a southern state of Mississippi, MSU is land-grand research
university with R1: Doctoral University – very high research activity
classification. The university hosts a world-class High-Performance Computing
Collaboratory (HPCC), state of the art research centers including Center for
Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS) and Raspet Flight Research Laboratory,
providing numerous opportunities to perform collaborative research.
At CAML, we focus on performing high-fidelity Large Eddy Simulations (LES),
Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) of low/high-speed flows. In general, high-
speed multi-physics interactions, flow stability transition chaos and
turbulence, machine learning for fluid mechanics, and modal decompositions and
data-driven approaches are the current research interests at CAML.
We collaborate with Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright-Patterson Air
Force Base, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Langley, and
several University partners on the aforementioned topics of research.
Qualifications:
• M.S. in aerospace, mechanics, mechanical/chemical engineering, applied
physics, or a closely related discipline. M.S. with project experience and
publication record is preferred.
• Be passionate and self-motivated to venture into new areas and do
important/revolutionary work on the above research topics.
• Strong mathematical background and interest in computational fluid dynamics,
fluid-thermal-structure interaction, flow stability, machine learning, flow
visualization, etc.
• Good programming skills in Fortran, Python, or MATLAB. Experience in GPU or
parallel computing is a plus.
How to Apply:
Interested candidates are invited to email Dr. Vilas Shinde
(vshinde@ae.msstate.edu) with a short introduction of the research interests,
the latest CV (including GRE/TOFEL scores and contact information
of three professional references), and transcripts.
Please include the CFD-online job record number # in the subject line of your
email.
